DRONA works in the principle of Vedanta as envisioned
by...
Swami Vivekananda,
Swami Vivekananda,
"the teacher invokes the spirit of inquiry in the pupil who is
supposed to find out things for himself under the bias-free
guidance of the teacher".
This principle also resembles the heuristic method of the modern education, where the students play the role of an independent discoverer. The teacher sets a problem for the students and then ask them to discover the answer.
DRONA has four distinct parts:
(1) DRONA EdMS (EdMS),
(2) DRONA ONLINE CONTENT BUILDER TOOL (dOCBT),
(3) DRONA ONLINE ASSESSMENT BUILDER TOOL (dOABT) and
(4) DRONA SOCIO-LEARN MEDIA (dSLM).
(2) DRONA ONLINE CONTENT BUILDER TOOL (dOCBT),
(3) DRONA ONLINE ASSESSMENT BUILDER TOOL (dOABT) and
(4) DRONA SOCIO-LEARN MEDIA (dSLM).
These parts are integrated to work together as well as to work independently. Both dOCBT and dOABT can work online and offline to provide efficient work environment for the instructors and authors.
In addition to dOCBT and dOABT, dSLM is designed to work in an autonomous fashion but has been restristed by integrating with dLMS to ensure that feedback and interaction are established between instructors and students efficiently.
DRONA is designed and developed on the basis of two fundamental needs:
how to teach over online and how to build the content bridging together academic system and content development process, thereby giving freedom and self-reliance to authors and instructors to develop their own content.
NIE has launched DRONA with its LMS section
containing many interdisciplinary tutorials. The full
fledged version of DRONA will be launched in August 2016.

CONTENT DEVELOPMENT PROCESS COVERED BY DRONA
Based on SIX AREAS OF LEARNING, DRONA provides
comprehensive solution by incorporating complete content
development and knowledge transfer process.
CONTENT,TEACH and BUILD
The content structure and the teaching mode and presention of content are interlinked. Together they ensure to overcome several challenges of online teaching mode. These challenges have been resolved by DRONA ONLINE CONTENT BUILDING TOOL (doCBT).
doCBT has three components:

- Define time limit for a course completion in the program,
- Define program structure,
- Define scheduler of courses in a program,
- Define and customise, new and existing program content outline,
- Add, Modify or delete existing content outline from the LMS but not from the repository *
*It is retained in database for future reusability.
DRONA SCRIPT AND STORYBOARD TOOL (SAS)
DRONA understands difficulties of many instructors to create
online content. Therefore, to support and guide instructors
and to become self-reliant in developing script and
storyboard DRONA has introduced WOS, this helps:
- To allow authors with guiding format for developing script, and Storyboard ensuring uniformity through its templates.
- To contribute in content archiving for future authors
- To support Online Instruction Design from Content Development team. This service is unique to DRONA LMS users.
- To provide backend support in developing media assets (illustrations, animation, 3D models and videos) through "DRONA Author Support Team".
- To provide templates for multi-layered content with level definition.
- To provide optional feature for review, setting up reviewer, activating version control and reviewer feedback mechanism.
DRONA AUTHORING TOOL (AUT)
In many ways DRONA is better than other online content
building tools:
Drona understands instructors are not developers. Most online content building tools are either too simple or complicate that requires developers' assistance. Most cases development use of more than one software and add skill Dependency. To create self-reliance to instructor, AUT features provide:

LEARN and SOCIALIZE
Student-teacher interaction is the key to learning process.
Accordingly, Bill Pelz has proposed three principles of
effective online learning:
-
The First principle "let the students do (most of) the work. The more 'quality' time students spend engaged in content, the more of that content they learn."
-
The second principle states "interactivity is the heart and soul of effective asynchronous learning." He further states, "Students can be required to interact with one another, with the professor, with the text, with the Internet, with the entire class, in small groups or teams, one-on-one with a partner, etc.
In addition to discussing the course content, students can interact regarding assignments, problems to solve, case studies, lab activities, etc. Any course can be designed with required interactivity."
-
The third principle of effective online learning is "strive for presence": Social, Cognitive and Teaching.
LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEMT (LMS)
Apart from managing online tutorials and courses it
includes:
Through these tools day to day status of students directly updated on to instructors' desk through multiple trackers, enabling instructors to keep constant watch on students progress.

ASSESS
No learning is complete without assessment. The classical grading system gives an idea about the learner's knowledge level, but it is unable to reflect how the learner's knowledge level is achieved, what the possible areas of deficiency are, and how the deficiency can be removed for individual students. If the assessment system can identify these problems as far as possible, it becomes easier for the counselor to advise the path of improvement. It will also be easier for the authors and moderators to improve the quality of the content.
DRONA STUDENT LEARNING TREND ASSESSMENT ENGINE (dSLT)
This DRONA-SLT assessment engine guides the assessors to
follow a comprehensive question path by using DRONA
ASSESSMENT Template, and thereby can produce a complete
on-demand report that identifies quantitatively seven
deficient areas in the learning outcome. Some of these areas
are:
Student Learning Trend
(SLT) regarding:
Level of achievement
in different pedagogical areas
Overall Confidence
level about knowledge
Communication skill
Overall Area of
weakness on a subject
Global trend of a
class in a semester
Global difficulty area

Building together...
Today's global trend of education is to "GO ONLINE"
among the top universities across the world. "GO
ONLINE" helps maximise teaching and training capacity and
simultaneously provides quality education at economical and
optimal cost. This trend will increase in the number of expert
level professionals in the society.
To achieve optimal outcome from this trend, NIE provides its service and highly experienced expertise in close collaboration with the organisations to develop customized online programs in line with the goals of the organisation.
Considering "International Higher Education (HE)", DRONA LMS product of NIE launches various interdisciplinary tutorials and comprehensive programs which bring together natural, physical, computer and social sciences under one big umbrella "STEM"(science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Connection Server
The Maximum Concurrent User Number at present with our
server is 10,000. In near future we are enhancing this
number to 100,000 concurrent users. NIE also working to use
local radio connection which allows user to run Drona EdMS
under limited range without using internet or intranet. This
will make courses published in DRONA very easy to access and
cost effective. For achieving the target of 100,000 users our
development team is using NIO connector. NIO use fewer thread;
it means that the TCP/IP port use is fewer.
Application and Database Server
Server
runs under "LINUX" OS and apache web server, "MySQL" database
and other solutions written in JAVA.

Server Security
- Encrypted Data Transmission
- Locking User Accounts After Login Failures
- No third party software accessibility
- One way password encryption
- A hot spare: (alternative server connected for the backup) of all active databases which can be put into use within minute on the primary's failure.
- Secondary backup: vital data will be kept off-site
and can be restored within 8 hours. This is possible because
nightly hard copy backups are created and transferred
monthly to a secured location, and separate servers at
different locations backup data through replication

Our Mission...
...is to provide;
quality education for all uniformly across the globe
the most updated content in the field of education, especially in science and technology in the form of engaging tutorials and courses
quality education for all uniformly across the globe
the most updated content in the field of education, especially in science and technology in the form of engaging tutorials and courses
Our Belief...
"To learn is my Birth right".
"If knowledge is imparted appropriately
anybody can learn".
"If knowledge is imparted appropriately
anybody can learn".
"Within human is all knowledge, even as a child it is so, and
it requires only an awakening and that much is the work of a
teacher."
-Swami Vivekananda-
Based on this philosophical view Our Aim...
...is to:
make learning easier for all learners,
help teachers shift from transfer of content to focus on
explanation and understanding,
help learners to become self-reliant in gaining knowledge
through critical reading and smart questioning,
help teachers to shift from teaching to guiding,
help teachers to go global from regional.
Our Objectives
1.
To provide a system of student-centric and self-paced
learning. Emphasis is laid on the development of specially
designed self-learning study material, so that the students
can freely use their own style of learning with the help of
various teaching/learning aids available in the study
material.
2.
To make higher education available to persons who for
one reason or others are not in a position to pursue studies
under formal programs as regular full time students in
academic institutions.
3.
To make higher education available to all irrespective
of age and place of residence particularly keeping in mind
the need of the working persons and of those residing in
remote areas.
4.
To develop a system of education i.e. neither entirely
separate from nor wholly independent of the formal campus
system of education. This should be a blended system for the
best outcome.
5.
To make higher education available to persons who for
one reason or others are not in a position to persue studies
under formal programs as regular full time students in
academic institutions.
6.
To help students understand the true meaning of
education.
History
The concept DRONA came into existence in 2013 while working on
a research project, EDEX, with Nanyang Technological
University, Singapore, under the supervision of Prof. Salil
Bose (Fellow of Royal Society of Biology UK). The aim of the
research project was to create an online assessment system,
that not only to automate assessment scoring but also to
quantitatively determine student's learning trend.
NIE's (Netimagine Educomp) research and management team further extended the scope of the assessment system to generate Diverse Report on Online Assessment, which gave the system its name DRONA, honouring the great teacher of Indian mythology GURU DRONACHARYA. This system further evolved to a full-fledged "Socio-Learning Management and Content Building Tool" in 2016.
